Course Description
This seminar will discuss the most recent infection control recommendations and regulations, along with updates on OSHA regulations as they pertain to dental settings. Application of Standard Precautions will be addressed, including hand hygiene, vaccinations, personal protective equipment, instrument reprocessing, disinfection, and dental water asepsis. Modifications to Standard Precautions necessitated by emergence of SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 pandemic will be highlighted in light of recent CDC, OSHA, NIOSH, and ADA recommendations. Emphasis is to help dental professionals increase their understanding of the “why” as well as the “what” of infection control procedures.

Course Objectives
1. Review universal standard precautions and updates for CDC and OSHA IC recommendations and regulations
2. Describe the challenges of blood-borne and respiratory infections facing Dental Healthcare Workers (DHCW)
3. Discuss precautions associated with controlling aerosols and airborne pathogens
4. Identify effective hand hygiene procedures and review current vaccination recommendations for DHCW
5. Explain recent technology advances and protocols for instrument processing and sterilization
6. Discuss the importance of disposables and disinfectants used in environmental surface asepsis
7. Review the causes of and prevention techniques for dental unit waterline (DUWL) contamination

Requirements: Access to a computer that can play sound, is required for participation the Nevada AGD self study program. No special computer knowledge or equipment is required to participate; however, the webinar utilizes Google Drive to access the video link and the post test. Specific instructions will be disseminated in the confirmation page following registration. If any issues arise please email us for assistance at [email protected].
Cancellation Policy: Once materials have been sent to registrants, no refunds will be given regardless of course completion.
Other: In order to receive credit, Self-Study Post-Test must be completed and submitted to the NV AGD via email within 30 days of course receipt. Score requirements: 12 of the 15 questions (80% score) must be answered correctly. One additional retest is permitted at no additional charge. Any additional retests will require a $25 administrative fee. Once the course materials are sent to registrants, they have 30 days to complete the program and submit the posttest. To receive certificate prior to the June 30, 2024 NV licensure renewal deadline, all post-tests MUST be submitted on or before 6/24/24 at 5pm PST. *Registration after June 1, 2024, requires completion of course by 6/24/24 and the 30-day window to complete the course is not applicable.
